A community in Highland Hills, Dallas, is appealing to city officials for the reinstatement of colorful trash cans that were taken down just weeks after their placement. The Highland Hills Community Liaison Association had received a $2,000 grant from Dallas Code Compliance Services in September to help mitigate litter, using the funds to install trash cans featuring Disney character designs.
However, the city’s transportation department deemed the trash cans were incorrectly positioned and subsequently removed them. Now, the community leaders are asking for their reinstatement, arguing that they adhered to the city’s installation guidelines and deeming the removal as a misallocation of grant resources. Jayla Godbolt from the association expressed community sentiment, highlighting that the trash cans were well-received and not vandalized, with children enjoying their aesthetics. The group is also open to collaborating with the city for better placement of the cans. FOX 4 reached out to the local city council representative but has not received a response.
