Early Wednesday morning, surveillance footage captured a break-in at Donde Los Tacos, a taqueria located on West Davis Street in Oak Cliff. The burglar used a concrete block to break a window after several attempts. Video evidence shows the individual trying to shatter the glass multiple times, pausing outside the business before succeeding on the next try.
Owner Jennifer Reyes expressed her shock upon viewing the surveillance video. Upon the arrival of employees around 8 a.m., they discovered the restaurant in a state of disorder, with a cash register moved, equipment damaged, and approximately $100 stolen in cash.
This incident has heightened apprehensions among business owners in the Bishop Arts and Oak Cliff neighborhood, where multiple establishments have faced similar break-ins recently. Reyes stated that thefts have also been reported by neighboring businesses, with her own establishment experiencing prior burglaries.
In the past week, the owners of Whose Books reported that items were taken from a vehicle designated for community events. Additionally, a local hardware store has experienced several burglaries since August.
Chad West, a Dallas City Council member, has urged affected business owners to reach out to discuss potential solutions for enhanced security measures.
Reyes described the burglary as both frustrating and heartbreaking, sharing that she and her husband invested years of savings into establishing the restaurant. She is contemplating collaboration with other local business owners to explore strategies for improving security in their area.
