Dunmore’s Joe Cardillo Competes in Steamtown Marathon After Family Legacy

Joe Cardillo, a member of the Dunmore cross country team, is set to compete in his first marathon during the 29th Steamtown Marathon this Sunday. Cardillo has roots in the race, having previously assisted at the team’s aid station and watched his father, Joseph Cardillo Sr., achieve notable finishes in the event, including first in the Male 55-59 age group in 2016.

Set to begin at Forest City High School, the marathon features over 1,300 entrants and weaves through various communities before concluding in downtown Scranton. Cardillo, who graduated from Dunmore in 2022 and attended Marywood University, holds several track and field records and has been actively training. He aims to complete the race in approximately 2 hours and 28 minutes, while also anticipating emotional moments along the course as he encounters familiar faces, including colleagues and students from Carbondale Area High School.
