Teen faces manslaughter charge after 18-year-old dies in Dallas shooting

DALLAS – A 15-year-old has been charged with manslaughter following the death of 18-year-old Cristopher Nevarez, who was shot while seated in a car. On Oct. 3, at approximately 7:30 p.m., police received a call from a hospital located in the 8200 block of Walnut Hill Lane, where both Nevarez and the juvenile suspect arrived for treatment after the incident, which took place elsewhere.

Investigators discovered that the 15-year-old had shot Nevarez from behind, resulting in a neck injury that left him in critical condition, along with a hand injury to the minor. The Dallas Police Fugitive Unit arrested the suspect on Oct. 5 on an aggravated assault warrant. Nevarez succumbed to his injuries two days later, prompting police to announce an upgrade in charges to manslaughter. The juvenile remains in custody. Details regarding the motive for the shooting and the relationship between the two individuals have not been disclosed.
